Why didn't Prince Philip get the title The Prince Consort?

I understand why Prince Philip can't be a King, that he's a prince consort and Consort of the Monarch. What I don't understand is, why wasn't he given the title The Prince Consort previously held by Prince Albert, The Prince Consort? Surely, he deserves the honor? Were there any specific reasons not to grant him the title?
