Republic" just means a country with no monarch, usually representative. Democracy just means you get to vote..?

Whenever people say derogatory (and inaccurate) things about what "democracy" means, it's because they don't like the laws that were made. And saying "We're a Republic, not a democracy," does absolutely nothing to increase the likelihood that the laws that get made will be perfect.
